Refaat Alareer
“𝒴𝑜𝓊 𝓂𝓊𝓈𝓉 𝓁𝒾𝓋𝑒 𝓉𝑜 𝓉𝑒𝓁𝓁 𝓂𝓎 𝓈𝓉𝑜𝓇𝓎.” – Refaat Alareer, If I Must Die
Refaat Alareer was a Palestinian writer and educator, martyred in 2023 by an Israeli airstrike. His poem, If I Must Die, has become an anthem after his death, as he tells us, we must remember every day is an act of resistance against oppression. If he must die, you must remember that Palestinians live under occupation and that they are fighting for their liberation every day.
We think of the idea of home – something embedded deeply within our memory, blood, and resistance. Homeland is in your heart. We look to Alareer for guidance in these dark times. We remember him and his words as we steadfastly look toward the liberation of Palestine.
How can beautiful things, even what we wear, have more intention behind them? How can we be in a more cyclical dialogue between maker and consumer? These are all questions we are asking ourselves.
We have collectively been witnessing a number of genocides, sustained and fueled by western imperialism and capitalism. In the spirit of Alareer’s words and courage, 100% of this shirt’s proceeds will be sent to The Refaat Alareer Camp by the Sameer Project, Mohammed Abuissa’s family, & Wafaa & Family.
